Fall in Washington Township MI: Orchards and Craft Shows

October 1, 2026

Search for fall orchards near Washington Township this month and the name that keeps surfacing, across radio station roundups and relocation guides alike, is Blake's. It's a real destination, with a corn maze, hard cider on tap, and haunted weekends that pull visitors from three counties. It's also in Armada, one township over.

Washington Township has its own orchards. Three of them, all within a few miles of each other along Van Dyke Avenue, and this fall they've split into three businesses that don't resemble each other much anymore. Knowing which is which matters more than knowing there's an orchard nearby, because two of the three have changed what they actually offer since last October.

Three Addresses, Three Different Falls

Big Red Orchard sits at 4900 32 Mile Road and used to be a straightforward stop: pull in, pick apples, buy a dozen doughnuts, leave. That version has narrowed. The property's current hours run bar-forward, with the Legacy Bar open Wednesday through Sunday, including Saturday hours from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. U-pick access is now limited to Thursday and Friday afternoons, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., plus weekend mornings from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The farm market itself keeps a shorter window too, three to seven on Wednesdays and longer stretches Thursday through the weekend. If you remember Big Red as an apple stand, the apple stand still exists, but it's no longer the main event.

Westview Orchards and Winery, at 65075 Van Dyke, is the version most people picture when they hear "orchard." Established in 1813 and still run by the same family six generations later, it spreads across 188 acres and runs the full seasonal program: wagon rides, petting barns, a corn maze, a giant slide. That side of the operation runs Saturdays and Sundays from Labor Day through Halloween, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with lighter weekday activity through November 1. U-pick and the farm market run daily, and the wine bar opens weekends from noon to 6 p.m. This is the orchard that looks like the postcard.

Verellen Orchards and Cider Mill is the third, and it barely shows up in the seasonal roundups at all. It keeps a lower profile than either of its neighbors, without a bar program or a corn maze drawing crowds, just cider and U-pick running on its own schedule further up the same corridor.

Orchard Address This Fall's Focus
Big Red Orchard 4900 32 Mile Road Legacy Bar Wed–Sun, trimmed U-pick hours
Westview Orchards & Winery 65075 Van Dyke Full weekend family program through Halloween
Verellen Orchards & Cider Mill 63260 Van Dyke Ave Quiet U-pick, no seasonal add-ons

The Corridor With Two Names

Verellen's listed address on Macomb County's own directory of local orchards and cider mills reads Romeo, not Washington Township, even though the parcel sits inside the township's boundary lines. That's not a data entry error. Mail carriers along this stretch of Van Dyke use Romeo as the listed city regardless of which township the address actually falls in, which is why a business can be geographically inside Washington Township while every piece of mail it receives says otherwise.

It's a small quirk, but it explains something bigger: people who drive past Verellen every week often couldn't tell you with confidence which town it's in. The same stretch of road carries Westview's address as Washington and Big Red's as Washington too, so the inconsistency isn't about the corridor generally. It's specific to where Verellen happens to sit relative to the postal boundary, and it's the kind of detail that only becomes obvious once you've looked it up rather than assumed.

A Weekend That Has Nothing To Do With Apples

During Labor Day weekend, Frontier Town, at 67300 Van Dyke, hosted its own craft show as part of the Romeo Peach Festival, one stop among the festival's car show, parade, and pancake breakfast. That's already happened this year. What's coming up is a separate event entirely: Smetanka Craft Shows runs Frontier Town's Fall Craft Show the first weekend of October, an outdoor show on October 3 and 4.

Frontier Town itself isn't an orchard. It's a western-themed shopping plaza built around an arts and crafts mall, a general store, a consignment shop, a chocolate shop, a bakery, and a small petting zoo, the kind of place locals describe as good for gift browsing rather than apple picking. Two craft shows at the same venue, about four weeks apart, run by the same outside promoter, aimed at two different crowds: one tied to Labor Day weekend traffic, one standing on its own as the calendar turns toward Halloween.

If you're mapping out where the actual fall activity sits inside Washington Township versus where it only appears to sit, this is the piece that gets left out most often. People associate Van Dyke Avenue with orchards because that's what's visible from the road. The craft show weekend is a reminder that the same corridor carries more than fruit.

None of this is in Armada. Every stop covered here, Big Red, Westview, Verellen, Frontier Town, sits inside Washington Township's own lines, and the version of fall each one runs this year looks different enough that picking the wrong Saturday means picking the wrong experience entirely. Westview's wagon ride keeps running through Halloween. Big Red's kitchen doesn't open until Wednesday afternoon. Verellen doesn't change much for weekends at all, so any day works. Frontier Town's craft show closes out by Sunday evening on the fourth, and after that it's back to being a shopping plaza until the next one.
